Tougher water rules delayed

TORONTO - Deadlines for tougher new
rules for small and rural water systems are being delayed a second
time after even the MPP from Walkerton complained they were too
onerous.
Operators of community centres,
town halls, motels and campgrounds and other tourist operators were
facing new expensive regulations as soon as next month that many
said would force them to shut down.
The new regulations, recommended in
an inquiry report on Walkerton's deadly E.coli outbreak four years
ago, will now be phased in more slowly until as late as 2006,
Environment Minister Leona Dombrowsky said yesterday.
Conservative MPP Bill Murdoch,
whose riding includes Walkerton, has been warning for months that
the new rules will force small town halls to shut down.
